Social Behavior Change Communication Training Expert Job – SoCHa

Social Behavior Change Communication Training Expert

Company Profile: SoCha (a portmanteau of Social and Change) is an independent Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (ME&L) firm that provides bespoke solutions to social challenges. We are a US-registered, veteran-owned small business, headquartered in Mauritius.

SoCha supports foreign assistance interventions across Africa and Asia and specializes in advancing innovative methodologies and changing the way donors find solutions to social problems.

Background: SoCha is contracted to deliver the USAID/Kenya and East Africa (KEA) Localization, Inclusion, and Sustainability Activity (LISA) with the aim of assisting USAID staff and stakeholders to be more efficient, effective, transparent, inclusive, and skilled in achieving development outcomes.

LISA utilizes local expertise and seeks to partner with local entities with in-depth knowledge and networks in Kenya and utilize this expertise strategically. The utilization of local expertise focuses on close collaboration and interaction with local actors, including local indigenous organizations, counties, companies, institutions, and government.

As of May 2023, only 37.9 percent of Kenya’s adult population (18 and above) and 11.5 percent of children (12-17 years) have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

In response, LISA is seeking to engage a Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Training Expert to support the design and execution of a SBCC training to increase the capacity of USAID Implementing Partners (IPs) and healthcare workers to improve COVID-19 vaccine uptake within health facilities in Kenya.

For USAID IPs, the knowledge generated from the training may also be utilized beyond COVID-19 activities and expand into other health programming areas.

Position Responsibilities:

The SBCC Training Expert will perform the following tasks:

  • Design, plan, and execute a comprehensive 3-day SBCC training:
  • Identify the key objectives and learning outcomes for the training.
  • Develop a detailed curriculum that covers evidence-based SBCC approaches, communication skills, and strategies specific to COVID-19 vaccine uptake.
  • Incorporate interactive activities, case studies, and group discussions to enhance participant engagement and learning.
  • Ensure the training addresses the needs of USAID IPs and healthcare workers in the selected counties.
  • Collaborate closely with the IPs and county representatives to understand their specific challenges and needs in implementation of SBCC.
  • Offer technical guidance and support to improve healthcare workers’ capacity and communication skills related to COVID-19 vaccine uptake.

Leverage partners for sponsorship:

  • Collaborate with the partners to map out potential health promotion teams to participate in the training.
  • Approach these partners with a proposal highlighting the benefits of sponsoring healthcare providers to attend the training.
  • Work with USAID IPs to identify successful demand generation activities for COVID-19 vaccines and collect relevant data and information to develop a series of case studies that showcase the impact of these activities.

Support USAID partners’ knowledge sharing and develop a collection of case studies:

  • Coordinate with USAID partners who have implemented SBCC approaches in the past.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing sessions where partners can share successes, challenges, and lessons learned from their SBCC initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Postgraduate degree in Social Behavior Change Communication, Behavioral Science/Studies, Health communication, or a related field.
  • Previous work experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating SBCC programs or campaigns within the public health sector or development organizations is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal proficiency.
  • Prior experience in training design, and training facilitation, on SBCC and behavior change.
  • Knowledge of USAID and the Public Health Landscape is preferred.
  • COVID-19 vaccination understanding is preferred.
