Position Title: Communications Assistant (1 position)
Locations: Nairobi
Reporting To: Public Relations & Communications Manager
Overall Responsibility
Reporting to the Public Relations and Communications Manager, the Communications Assistant will support the implementation of communication strategies for the food security and livelihoods programming in close. He/She will support the planning, directing, controlling and implementation of proactive communication activities to promote the visibility of all livelihood interventions
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and develop information and publicity materials, as well as implement activities designed to improve understanding and acceptance of the Society’s food security and livelihood interventions
- Gather, edit and package communication materials and publications including information, educational and communication materials for the programme.
- Development and production of the E-newsletter and the quarterly magazine.
- Assist in the documentation of program activities through print, photography and videography.
- Coordinate and ensure that content relating to food security and livelihoods programming is up to date on the website and other platforms.
- Providing assistance in the targeted media campaigns, organizing awareness workshops, trainings,
- Maintaining records of all press coverage, tracking the Society’s profile and providing assistance in the development of strategic initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in Mass Communications or a media related field.
- At least 2 years demonstrated experience in developing and implementing effective corporate communications programmes.
- Fully proficient computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications.

- Excellent organizational skills.
- Good photography and videography skills.

Position Title: Senior Communications Officer (1 position)
Locations: Nairobi
Reporting To: Public Relations & Communications Manager
Overall Purpose
Reporting to the Public Relations and Communications Manager, the Senior Communications Officer will implement corporate communication policies and strategies that promote mutual relationships with external and internal publics contributing to the realization of the Kenya Red Cross Society’s mandate, vision and mission. The holder will be responsible for design, development, implementation and evaluation of effective communications strategies aimed at enhancing collaborative partnerships between the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), partners and donors while promoting the KRCS image, in order to create goodwill and build credibility. Other responsibilities include effective media relations and campaigns aimed at creating public awareness on KRCS role in addressing developmental and emergency issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates development of visuals, audio visuals, web-based advertisements and other broadcast materials.
- Oversees the updating and maintenance of media contacts/ materials and other stakeholder databases.
- Coordinates the generation of website and other social media content.
- Implements corporate communication strategies and policies for the Society
- Generates opinion editorials and proof reads internal and external communication documents
- Liaises with departments to provide content for publicity of the Society’s events and engagements
- Works with departments to plan and execute key events and important celebrations
- Participates in the development of content for publication of newsletters and documentaries
- Edits press releases/statements, keynote speeches, annual reports and other key documents for the Society
- Prepares talking notes and speeches for staff during media interviews and press conferences
- Participates in perception surveys, media content research & analysis, PR research, gather communication intelligence and carry out audience analysis
- Implements Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives
- Mentors and coaches staff in the unit and other departments
Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:-
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Communication Studies/ Public Relations/ Corporate Communication/Development Communication and Media Studies.
- Served for at least four (4) years, in the grade of Public Relations Officer or in a comparable position
- Demonstrated capability in the management of Public relations function
